Case Manager / Paralegal

Aleta’s Case Managers provide case management support to the team’s attorneys who conduct investigations and hearings for educational institutions, sports organizations, and companies across the country.
The Case Manager will assist attorneys in the investigation and resolution of complaints of discrimination, bias, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-based violence including stalking, domestic violence, dating violence, intimate partner violence, and sexual assault. This position requires regular exposure to and ability to work with confidential and sensitive information about these topics.
Aleta’s Case Managers:
Research and write, including drafting case timelines and preparing investigation report templates and appendices;
Assist attorneys with preparation for interviews, including drafting interview outlines, reviewing interview transcripts for accuracy, note-taking in interviews, and preparing interview summaries;
Track and maintain investigation electronic records;
Proofread and review written work product for accuracy and completeness;
Track, cull, and analyze documentary evidence collected in investigations;
Independently track case status and meet deadlines across a high volume of ongoing cases;
Prepare training and presentation materials;
Assist with marketing, business development, and other firm projects; and
Assist with administrative tasks, including filing and scheduling, as necessary.
It is critical for Aleta’s Case Managers to treat all individuals engaged in the investigation processes with sensitivity and neutrality and maintain the strictest standards of confidentiality.
The ideal candidate for this position is a team player, with a strong work ethic, excellent writing, note-taking, and verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff. Case Managers must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines. Excellent judgment in sensitive matters and a high degree of emotional intelligence are a necessity.
In addition, the candidate must possess superior research and organizational skills and strong technical skills, including mastery of Microsoft Office 365, including Adobe, and the ability to learn the firm’s document management and billing systems.
Aleta is a wholly remote law firm, and Case Managers must be self-motivated and able to perform the role fully remotely while conducting business via Zoom, Teams, etc.
This position reports to Practice Manager and Managing Attorneys.
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for the role. Starting salary of $50,000-$70,000, depending on experience.
Occasional travel is required for team retreats, training and/or conferences.
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of case or project management software.
Knowledge of legal communication, principles, practices and research techniques.
Knowledge of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 1973, and related statutes, regulations, and executive orders and/or knowledge of and experience with issues related to discrimination, bias and gender-based harassment, including sexual misconduct and relationship violence.
